The U.S. Olympic hockey team is coming together to take on a team of 16 other teams in the men’s game and the final is slated to be played on Sunday, the eve of the 2016 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
In a statement, the U.K.’s women’s Olympic team said the women’s tournament would be the final game in their bid to win gold in Rio de Janeiro.
The teams are aiming to win their fifth straight Olympic gold medal and their first gold in six years, as the United States and Russia compete for the crown of world hockey champions.
The team is made up of American-born players who hail from around the world, including three-time Olympic gold medallist Abby Wambach, two-time gold medalist and 2017 world champion Abby Wysocki, and three-year Olympic champion and two-Time World Cup champion Abby Hahn.
The US team is led by the reigning world champion, Connor McDavid, who was named to the team by former coach and captain Adam Oates.
The Canadian team features three-sport icons and former Olympians Connor McElhinney, Connor Hellebuyck and Cam Talbot, as well as two-sports icons, Emily Zarin and Emily Zurawski.
McDavid, Wysamp, Wiesocki and Zurawsky were all on the U-20 World Cup team that won gold in London.
Hahn, a former U.N. women’s ice hockey champion, has made a name for herself as a leader for Team USA, leading the team to the 2017 world championship.
Hanso, who has played in seven Olympics and scored a career-high 32 goals in 2016, will make her Olympic debut in the final against Russia, who won bronze in the 2016 Olympics in Sochi.
Russia will host the gold medal game on Saturday, with the women playing the men at 5 p.m.
ET (12 p.l.).
