England’s World Cup campaign has come to a close but the outcome remains a mystery, as Germany will go through to the quarter-finals.

England defeated the German side 4-0 in the opening game of the tournament to qualify, although a late goal from Kevin Keegan put the result beyond doubt.

The game started well for the hosts as the German defenders were held back by a rash of errors and errors of a similar nature, but it was only after a few more mistakes that the German defence could respond.

It wasn’t until after the final whistle that the first real shot was fired and it was a good strike by Joe Hart, with England captain Wayne Rooney providing the final touch for the winner.
